What OCR is and when to use it
OCR (optical character recognition) is the technology that "reads" the text in an image and turns it into editable text. Use it to copy a passage from a photographed book, digitize an invoice, pull the text from a screenshot, transcribe an old document, or grab the content of a slide image — without retyping everything by hand.
How to get the best recognition
OCR quality depends heavily on the image. For the best result: shoot straight on (no tilt), with good lighting and no shadows over the text, keeping the paper flat and the focus sharp. Dark text on a light background works better than the reverse. Blurry, very small, or crooked-text photos tend to produce errors. The tool automatically upscales and cleans the image before recognizing, but a good photo makes all the difference.
