PNG, JPG and WEBP: which to use

  • JPG: best for photos. Light files, but no transparency.
  • PNG: best for logos, screenshots, illustrations and images with a transparent background. Lossless, but heavier.
  • WEBP: Google’s modern format. It combines the best of both — photo quality and transparency — with much smaller files. Ideal for keeping websites fast.

Batch convert with quality control

You can drop several images at once and convert them all to the same format in one go. When exporting JPG or WEBP, a quality control lets you balance sharpness and file size: lowering quality a little cuts the weight substantially with no visible loss on most photos.

No upload, no watermark

Conversion runs in the browser: no image is uploaded and the result has no watermark. To shrink further while keeping the format, see compress images; to convert iPhone photos, HEIC to JPG.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use each format?

JPG for photos and maximum compatibility; PNG when you need transparency or crisp graphics; WebP for the modern web — JPG-level quality at ~30% less weight.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. Conversion never recovers already-compressed detail; it only changes the container. To gain quality, always start from the original file.

Is transparency preserved?

PNG and WebP preserve transparency. When converting to JPG, transparent areas get a white background, since JPG has no alpha channel.
