How to merge several PDFs into one file
Merging PDFs is simple — until the order comes out wrong, one file is protected, or the result is too heavy to attach.
Order is what usually goes wrong
Most tools merge in the order the operating system listed the files — alphabetical, not logical, so “Document10.pdf” lands before “Document2.pdf”. Either rename with two-digit numbers or use a tool that shows thumbnails and lets you drag to reorder.
Password-protected files
A PDF with an open password cannot be merged until it is unlocked — by design. If you have the password, open it and print to a new PDF, then merge that copy. A good tool warns that a file is encrypted instead of freezing.
Why the merged PDF gets huge
Pages are copied as they are, embedded fonts and images included, so the same font may be carried several times. Compress after merging, not before.
Merging without uploading
The Localside PDF merger shows each file as a card with a thumbnail, lets you drag to reorder and merges entirely in the browser. For the reverse, use rotate and split PDF.
